Forthcoming Open House: Featherston House, October 2007

The last of our Open Houses in 2007 will be held at the Featherston House. The discussion topic, led by owner Mary Featherston, is: 'The Client/Architect Relationship in Generating Transformative Spaces'. Invitations will be posted in late August. For more information email nicdowse AT gmail.com.

What is the Boyd Homes Group?

The Boyd Homes Group is an informal network of owners, their friends, former owners and people who have worked on buildings designed by Robin Boyd. We offer all owners the opportunity to learn about Boyd's architecture and design issues in general. In doing so we help owners make informed decisions about managing their properties. Through periodic "open houses", seminars, tours and events we discuss issues relevant to owners - from "managing water in a Boyd" to "the renovate vs restore debate".

On Robin Boyd

Robin Boyd (1919–1971), born and educated in Melbourne, was a member of the famous Australian family of artists and writers. He was a distinguished architect, writer and social commentator and throughout the 1940s and 1950s was Australia’s leading proponent of the modern movement. Boyd held a lifelong interest in modern architecture tempered by regional concerns. He was a leading practitioner of the post-war Melbourne regional style. The suburban house was often the focus of Boyd’s efforts, both in design and writing, and he enjoyed relatively few opportunities to design major buildings.
